Stylish bedroom for young parents

Sometimes, after children are born, tiny as they are, they still quickly manage to take over the whole life of the family. Family home becomes one big nursery with toys everywhere. To maintain a healthy balance, parents have to have a place where they can be alone. "Home idea with IKEA" visits a young couple in need of a new bedroom interior just for the two of them. How will Interior Designer Elīza manage to create the vibe the hosts are longing for?

Before: the bare minimum for the whole family

This room's interior is something many young parents can relate to: the bare minimum, shaped by the need to make it safe for the children and to fulfil the basic needs for all. As in many families, both toddlers still sleep in one room with their parents and the parent's bed is no more than a mattress on the floor for safety reasons. Now it has to change: Arta and Raitis have decided that it is time to win back some privacy.

After: a warm harmony in amber and honey

After the makeover, the room has completely changed. It is not just the furniture, but rather the whole character of the space. Instead of a bare and utilitarian space it has become a serene and modern room for resting and regenerating. Warm amber and honey shades are accentuated by timeless black elements that round the impression up.
 

How to choose the right accessories

Furniture is the backbone of every interior, but accessories give the whole character and soul. Here, Elīza has chosen to work tone-in-tone, matching the colour of the back wall with different textures in curtains and decorative pillows.
A clever trick to use in small rooms is adding mirrors behind the bedside lamps as this amplifies the light and gives the interior more visual depth.

Putting an empty wall to use

The empty wall space behind the headboard is used creatively for a couple of family moodboards depicting happy memories. Such boards are a great addition to a dynamic interior as they are easy to change and update. Photos, inspirational notes and cards as well as pins and drawings can find their place on such a moodboard.
 

Cosy and intimate yet multifunctional

This bedroom, like many others, has more than one function. It was clear that a part of this room has to be dedicated to work. Elīza has managed to integrate a small desk in one corner, adding also a couple of chests of drawers that draw attention away from the functional solution and act as a sideboard below the TV and an additional storage space. Mimicking the black screen, there is a wall organiser above the desk for the small things that have to be at hand when working.
 

Designer's tip: choose several pieces from one furniture family

When decorating a room, you have to think of the main function. In this case, the main function is resting and regenerating and thus the interior has to be harmonious and peaceful to help to rest better. To achieve this harmony, it is a good idea to choose several pieces from the same furniture family as this creates a more uniform look.
