A whole separate room to do laundry, to iron and to store all the spare clothing... sounds like a dream? It may be true but a room like that has its own challenges. In the room starring the 2nd episode of "Home idea with IKEA" there is no lack of those. A sloping ceiling, a complex floor plan, deep nooks where things just disappear and do not appear anymore. And still, IKEA Interior Designer Anastasija feels this room has potential and sees many ways to improve it.
The family and the designer
Even though the family lives in the house for 10 years, the room in question has been the same since beginning. As the host says: temporary solutions live the longest. With all the work they have put into this room, it still seems to be mishappen and lacking warmth and cosiness. Hostess Inga says she is dreaming of a light, well organised space with a functional interior.
A room not living up to its full potential
The laundry room is quite spacious as such, but the complex structure makes it difficult to make it fully functional. Most things are kept in open containers and shelves and objects tend to land where there seems to be enough space and not where they would belong and be easily accessible. Another issue is lighting as there is just one window.
What is inside, stays inside
If a room needs storage space for seasonal clothes and other bulky items, those are best stored on hangers. Use clothes covers and store the clothing in a closed wardrobe to keep your things free of dust. In this room, IKEA Interior Designer Anastasija has planned a combination with drawers and cabinets. For added flexibility, there are also open shelves for quick access to some often-used things.

Every thing needs a home
After makeover, the room is just like the hosts wanted to have it. There is enough storage space for every thing to find the best and most comfortable place. The makeover shows that even a mishappen space can be converted into a fully functional room. Designer reminds to think about lighting – even the deepest nooks and crannies can be used comfortably if they have proper lighting.
Using the walls smartly
Pegboard combinations are a smart way to use available walls. Designers advice is to use it wisely as is an additional storage space. Here, she has created a practical storage for small things that serves also as a wall panel to keep the wall safe from chipping caused by the iron. Attaching a lamp, it also ensures functional lighting.
