Once upon a time, there was a castle... in a tree. As small as it is, this tiny tree house is a beloved spot for both children of a family living in the outskirts of Ikšķile. A great place to spend time in while outside, this house serves the family for some time already and has well deserved an update.
A fun makeover for everybody
IKEA Interior Designer Renāte is excited to delve into this unusual project that may seem small but requires just as much creativity as the bigger projects. One part is giving a new life to the old tree-house but another is to create a place where the whole family can relax and the adults can keep an eye on the small ones. The family cannot wait to see what Renāte will do in their garden!

A well-loved space waiting for an update
The tree-house was originally built as an adventure zone for the oldest son in the family. Now already a teenager, he still uses it occasionally when playing with his younger brother or other kids. As the tree house also has a slide and a climbing wall, it is a great opportunity to spend more time outside, and Designer Renāte will have to find ways to make this space even more attractive so that children would wish to spend time there.

Without the limit of four walls, it is easy to create extra space wherever needed. Renāte has used a set of outdoor chairs and a parasol to create an impression of an enclosed relaxing zone. Adding some colourful pouffs and children's furniture to mix things up, she has managed to create a vibrant combination that is inviting and playful and great both for relaxing, a picnic or just some time spent together in pleasant conversations.

Renāte encourages using artificial plants for outdoor spaces as they blend in well with the surrounding vegetation and are very easy to care for. Here, a whole wall of the treehouse has been covered in plants, to make a more impressive display. Added planters on the railing make for a lively and cosy touch.

With sturdy shelves that can be covered for protecting the contents, the snack station will be safe from the elements. Adding a couple of lounge chairs and some easy-care artificial plants it is easy to create great summer feeling. Some sheer curtains add some privacy and protect from insects and small raindrops.

Considering the limited space, Renāte has opted for wall storage solutions. SKÅDIS pegboards are a versatile solution as they can be complemented with different accessories, like shelves, hooks etc. to match the stuff you would like to store.
