Once upon a time in Ādaži, a group of enthusiastic kids and their parents came together to form the Ādaži BMX team. Their shared passion for cycling and adventure brought them together, and they quickly became a close-knit team. As such, it needs space to gather and spend time together.
How to set up a cozy room for a team that is meant for relaxation and fun, but also needs a place to work and a kitchen? This team is up for a new challenge and ready to be surprised by a new interior!
Current status: a makeshift arrangement
The BMX team's gathering room is the perfect hub for post-training camaraderie and relaxation. However, it never stays on the top of the priority list. This means that the makeshift arrangement made at the very beginning has stayed the same for all its lack of comfort. The room is equipped with basic seating arrangements, memorabilia strewn around the windowsills, and the small kitchenette covers only the most basic needs.
Work & dine: a two-in-one solution
Welcome to this cozy and multifunctional dining area, where the concept of simplicity meets productivity. In the heart of this space sits a dining table, a versatile combination of two simple desks on wheels, with seating for up to 6 persons. The table, spacious enough for meals, also doubles as a multifunctional work area when needed.
What comes first - wall colour or furniture?
When it comes to designing a room, choosing the right furniture before deciding on the wall color is a strategic approach that can significantly influence the overall aesthetic of the space. Furniture serves as the foundational elements, dictating the style of the room.
Sometimes, though, it is a two-way street. If you are thinking about a specific colour, it can influence your decisions regarding the colour scheme. Here, the bright blue colour of the dining chairs was the defining point of the blue wall. To balance this, other pieces of furniture are more neutral in shade: warm, light wooden tones interact with graphic blacks and whites, accentuated by drops of happy orange and yellow.
Relaxing together as a team
One part of the space has been dedicated to the spirit of togetherness and relaxation. Whether just a couple of minutes to chat before the training or a longer time to unwind after a tournament, this space encourages spending time together. Comfy couches and chairs, complemented by a coffee table for mugs of warm tea and some treats, invite you to sit and relax. The bright colours enliven the whole atmosphere. As for storage, the designer encourages using open shelves and seeing the objects within as decorations.
Bold colours in interior
"Bold colours, like blue and orange in this room, create a fresh impression and have an invigorating effect on your mood. Of course, they have to be balanced in order not to become visual noise. By choosing monochrome furniture and natural wooden shades, the interior looks harmonious and is pleasing to all the senses."
