Thinking inside the box

Paper is one of our favourite materials. It's durable, versatile and lets you customise it easily. Our goal is to minimise paper's impact on the planet so we can continue to enjoy its great practical uses. That's why we work with recycled paper as much as possible, use responsibly sourced wood to make fresh paper, and design products that use less raw materials without losing any of their functionality, like the completely recyclable TJENA,TJOG and KVARNVIK storage boxes.

What is paperboard?

Paperboard is a thick and durable material that often comprises of several layers of paper and has many different uses. At IKEA we use paperboard in everything from packaging and sturdy storage boxes to games and other children's products. We strive for using recycled paper in our paperboard and the production is completely free from harmful substances.

Balancing work and rest: an unusual makeover in an office
Balancing work and rest: an unusual makeover in an office

A special task for IKEA Interior Designer Barba – a project like no other, this is the office/common room at the Crisis and Counselling Centre "Skalbes". This time, "Home Idea with IKEA" is visiting the office of the Centre that it moved into not very long ago. When moving, the old furniture was taken with, as due to the finances there was no possibility to buy new things. However, this office is the place of main activities of the Centre.

A room for the first steps into adulthood

In the last episode of the second season "Home Idea with IKEA" visits a small and happy family of three where young Dāvids is longing for his own small kingdom to learn to be independent after spending long years under the constant surveillance of parents because of health issues. A makeover in Dāvids room is long overdue as it was once meant to be a nursery and hasn't much changed since then. IKEA Interior Designer Ieva is happy to create a room for a teenager as she believes it offers more chances for free expression and bold colour combinations.
