“When developing this hot dog, the goal was for it to resemble our meat-based hot dog in taste, look and texture as much as possible. And I´m very happy with the result. We have recreated the slightly smoky taste, given the skin the right snap and succeeded in making the hot dog look really tasty. Perfect for anyone who wants to cut back on their meat-eating but loves hot dogs!”

The IKEA hot dog story started in the late 1980s when Ingvar Kamprad introduced the hot dog as a proof point for low price with quality for the many people. Ingvar insisted that people should be amazed at how affordable it was, and how delicious. That it should be the perfect way to end a visit to the IKEA store. Since then, the hot dog has become one of our true food icons.Today, we are all making more conscious decisions about our diet – and how it impacts our health and our planet. So, we challenged ourselves to create a plant-based hot dog, a rice protein-based alternative to the original. A hot dog that everyone – meat lovers, flexitarians and vegetarians – can enjoy in our Bistro.
