ENHET kitchen

A kitchen that is a little more you

All kinds of changes in life affect the home. Maybe you’ve become a devoted baker, started collecting unique porcelain or the family has grown with a baby. Whatever it is, the needs in the kitchen can suddenly change. With ENHET we wanted to create a more flexible kitchen series that you can easily customise and update as your everyday life changes – or when you just want to show a little more of your personality.

“We started by asking people around the world what their challenges look like in the kitchen,” says Daniel Loader, who worked with the development of ENHET. “Then we understood that the shortage of space and need for personalisation is universal.”

Celebrate the things you love

These insights convinced Daniel and his colleagues to focus on developing both closed cabinets which are more conventional, as well as open shelves in stable metal frames. "Whatever you put on the open shelves – porcelain, a fine olive oil or your most loved cookbooks – it becomes your personal and unique expression", says Daniel and explains how shelves and cabinets can be combined in many different ways to suit every kitchen. And when the needs change, it's easy to complete with more storage solutions.

Less planning with a flexible kitchen

Flexibility is also the key word for several ENHET accessories, and Daniel has his favourite. "The hook rail. Here you can hang pots and pans, mugs, towels – pretty much anything you want to have close at hand when working in the kitchen. And you can easily move the hooks around without having to drill holes in the wall”, he says while putting up some hooks on the metal rail under a shelf. “Our goal with ENHET was to make it easy to end up with a more practical and personal kitchen. So you can plan less, and live more."

Parallel universe: a small, budget-friendly apartment designed to be shared

They’ve been living together for the past few months but sharing life together since day one. Here they are: siblings sharing a one-bedroom apartment and making it work. More than work, actually. As they’re both about living their best lives, rather than having the most expensive stuff, they’ve created a home to be enjoyed together and apart. From dance and dinner parties to quiet “me-time” moments, it all happens here.

Reuse, repair, recycle, reimagine: living more sustainably with IKEA

At IKEA, we’re on an exciting journey to become a circular business by 2030, making healthy and more sustainable living accessible and more affordable to people around the world. We’re reimagining how we do things, from how and where our materials are sourced, to how our products are designed, transported, sold and – eventually – recycled. Like anything worthwhile, it’s a process filled with new challenges and adventures, but we’re well on our way to helping create a better everyday life for people and the planet.

Ask a designer: living more sustainably on a budget

“I want to furnish my home sustainably, but I don’t have much money. How do I do it?” There is this idea that living more sustainably is expensive, but it absolutely does not have to be. You can furnish your home to be a beautiful, warm and colourful place in a way that is good for the planet but good for your wallet too. We chatted to interior designer Chiara Effroi Lutteri about how she created a home that’s just that: poppy, practical and filled with lower-impact choices – all on a shoestring budget.
