Creating a happy place image 1
This time, IKEA team faces the challenge of turning a bedroom/living room/workspace combination into a wellness oasis for a woman who would like to have a room just for her after many years taking care of others. Interior designer Līva will dedicate all her skill to convert the rather old-fashioned room. Its owner Laila cannot wait to finally have her own private space.

The importance of resting
In this family, many years have passed with mother and her child living in just one room. For Laila, one of the sore points in this room is the sleeping solution. She's been sleeping on a sofa for many years already and is starting to feel the strain. The old armchairs are the only possibility to take some rest during the day, but they have become less and less comfortable over the years of intense use.

Too much is too much
Even though the room is quite spacious, it seems small because of the many functions assigned to it. The rather dark, warm colour palette and the massive storage combination add to this impression. The room does not invite to recover and meditate.

First things first
When asked about what is important for her, Laila doesn't hesitate. She says it's the paintings. It's the only thing in this room that she definitely would like to keep. Otherwise, she trusts the IKEA team to find the best solutions.

The designer
IKEA interior designer Līva, known already from the 2d episode of the show is presented with her task – to transform another room. As opposed to the last time when she had to design a multifunctional space for a couple, this time it is all about just one person. A woman who would like to have a space just for her.

Defining the functions
The seemingly light task of designing a room from a scratch without any strict demands from the owner soon turned to a challenge. It was clear that the room had to be redefined according to the desired function as a retreat paradise for regenerating after work. Dusky rose wall colour reflected also in the curtains sets the scene for a feminine and modern interior.

Smart storage for sleek look
One of important elements in a bedroom is always storage. It has to be spacious to fit all the necessary things. In countries like Latvia where you have to adapt your wardrobe according to the time of the year, this is especially true. Līva chose a white PAX frame that blends in with other white items in the room with its LÖNSET doors. The wardrobe is tall, using the wall space to its full potential, and the frosted glass panels in the door give the design an airy note. The traditional LEIRVIK steel bed with an intricately ornamented headboard is a feminine touch.

Aranging is changing
Lailas beloved paintings are sporting new frames giving a fresh touch. The uniform white frame colour is a great way to emphasize the vibrant colours on the canvas. Two spacious BILLY bookcases in white for the base of this decorative arrangement.

Small but all yours
For the make-up corner the IKEA designer chose to think outside the box. You won't find any traditional side table-and-mirror combinations here. An INGATORP drop-leaf table serves as a make-up table and a HEMNES wall mirror completes the look.

Relaxing without sleeping
Even though sleep is the most important form of rest, it is always important to remember about taking shorter periods of rest and just spending time with your favourite pastimes like reading. In this room, a STRANDMON armchair with a footstool take a central role along with the bed as the main furniture for relaxing. The light beige colour coordinates with the rosy background creating a harmonious atmosphere.
