Ready for new adventures? image 1
This time, we visit a family in one of Rigas' satellite towns – Baloži. Here, a family of five – Tamāra, Edvīns, Kristiāna, Kristofers and baby Gabriela is at home. The family has lived in this same apartment for several years already and the love and care that goes into their home is visible in every detail. Even so, there are thigs that seem to have gone from temporary solutions to permanent ones – mostly because of lack of time. Now, the family is ready for a change – they wish to transform their living room to make a multifunctional space for the whole family.

Just one room, so many dreams and needs
The room the family wishes to see transformed is quite spacious but the interior does not do justice to its full potential. Right now, there are many pieces of furniture and each and every one of them live their own lives, without gravitating towards any given point of reference such as style or colour. The existing storage solutions are not as handy as the family would wish, and there are no clearly defined areas for different activities. Even though the room creates a homey impression with its wooden floor the colour of warm honey and the big windows, it also has kind of a cluttered air despite the fact that the whole family tries to keep it in order.

The everyday challenges
This room is the one space in the apartment that is frequented by all the family members, so it is very important to keep things out of the way. Placing sofas near the walls frees up a lot of floor space but not without risking to seem more office-like than wished for. A big family needs a lot of storage space. Until now, a storage combination in one corner of the room is being used but the many open shelves make a lot of work in the way of cleaning.

A professional solution for a more comfortable home
Meet interior designer Barba. For her, the most exciting task is arranging big and spacious rooms, because usually those are intended to fulfil multiple functions and should be divided in functional zones. She enjoys mixing and matching different materials and loves contrasts. While she mostly works with neutral colours such as beige, white, grey or pastel shades, she sees the beauty in using bright colours for accents. To her, a good interior design is beautiful and individual with special features standing out, so that you kind of know the person the moment you step in their home.

A 24/7 living room
Welcome to a fully transformed living room – a family haven with areas for different activities. The most important task was to separate the different functions of the space and it has been successfully done by choosing an L shaped sofa that naturally makes for a comfy nook to watch TV or relax with a book and by adding a carpet that emphasizes the separation. The carpet is practical for homes with small children as children tend to play a lot on the floor and it is warmer on a carpet.

Strengthening the traditions
One of the things that best keeps a family together is sharing meals. While sitting at one table, the whole family can tell about their day, the children can learn about the relationship structure in a family and the baby can take part too. LANEBERG extendable table is a nice option to have if you have a big family or if you like to throw dinner parties sometimes. Up to 6 persons can sit comfortably around the table and, when extended, it seats up to 8 persons.

Hide it for a better order
In comparison to the solution that was there before, the new BESTÅ TV storage looks light, airy and distinctly modern. Cabinets with solid doors in trendy grey colour palette help to keep a better order in room as everything stays hidden and the outside always looks clean and fresh. This is especially good for families with children as they tend to accumulate more things. The best drawings and pictures have found a place on a picture ledge, capturing the attention.

Now you see me, now you don't
One of the wishes that family had, was to have a comfortable sofa that would double as a bed for the father. Barba chose a FRIHETEN sofa bed that is super easy to transform into a spacious bed just by removing the pillows and pulling out the extendable part. The seat keeps its shape and supports the body evenly so it is very comfortable to sleep. In the morning, when the bed is not needed anymore, transform it back to a sofa for the whole family.

A multifunctional solution
As the room has been divided in two areas – one for dining and one for relaxing and playing – it now seems even more spacious than before. There are smart storage solutions and comfy seating options. The new interior has made the room more functional without losing any of its charm as a common space for a family with children. Modern colours and different lighting solutions add to the impression. Before, the room was a bit underlit with just one ceiling lamp and one floor lamp, but now there are several lamps put in places where lighting is most needed.
