What to do with a space that is hard to find the right use for? Madara and Ričards have a room just like that, and for the time being it's on the back burner, but... or we don't know how long the "on the back burner" can last! The owners are hoping for help and encouragement to create something lasting here, perhaps a sitting corner or a games room with a place to work.

Before: an unfinished space without function

The room waiting for a makeover is located between the main part of the house and the terrace and has not changed much since the current owners moved in. In summer, it is busier, as it leads to a cosy seating area on the terrace, but in winter it turns into a storage room.

A different way to store

The space is rather small, so there is no place for massive furniture. The floor isn't perfectly flat either, so you have to think about how to place the furniture straight. The perfect solution here is an open shelf with adjustable legs, so that the shelf ends up standing as it should. The transparent glass shelves give a particularly airy impression, while the graphic black frame is a striking backdrop for the objects placed in the shelve.
 

Interior follows function

To make room for more belongings, the designer has planned wall shelves by the ceiling on one side of the room. She used the best-fitting kitchen cabinet frames and stacked boxes in them to create a sleek look. A stepping stool is used to access the shelves and can also be used as seating if required. As the room opens onto the terrace, there are hangers near the terrace door for hanging a jacket or blanket.

A place to relax and be together

The centrepiece of the room is the seating area with a couple of comfortable armchairs, which just invite you to sit down and take a breather. This seating area can be accentuated with a rug to visually separate it from the rest of the room. For extra cosiness, natural material pouffes can be used to put your feet up, or as a tray table and even extra seating if you need more space.
 

How to fit the decor to the spirit of a space

It's not just about the design, but also about the furnishings we choose to create a harmonious impression. Plants and nature play a big part in the mood of this room, which is why various elements made from natural materials have been chosen as an addition to this interior, and even the wall decor has a botanical theme.
