This time, "Home Idea with IKEA" will transform a room in Ķekava – home town of a passionate seamstress and an all-round craftswoman Santa. Santa lives together with her young son and her husband in a house that was built and renovated step by step. The room awaiting the makeover was once the family bedroom, but now that the second storey of the can be used it has slowly morphed into a guest bedroom, a laundry room and, above all, a hobby room for Santa. A lot of studies, including IKEA "Life at Home" 2019 report have shown, that hobbies are a way of recharging and relaxing. It's a perfect way of finding time for oneself and the right environment contributes to well-being.

The Kingdom of Temporary Solutions
In this room, there are many "temporary" solutions. When Santa thinks about it, many of these have long since become almost permanent. For example, the computer table that still stores a computer although it is not needed and not being used. Most of the things Santa needs for her newest hobby (sewing) are stored in big boxes – a solution that does not promote efficient work. When Santa needs to draw sewing patterns on fabric, she does that on the floor as there is no other place for that.

One wardrobe for the whole family
As a former bedroom, this room holds a big built-in wardrobe that serves as storage for the whole family. There is clothing for all seasons, fabrics for sewing and even luggage and ironing board. It is the only piece of furniture in this room that uses the full potential of the wall height. Interior Designer Inga says that this is a widespread problem – everything stored on the floor and taking up a lot of space, when walls would be a great opportunity to store more efficiently.

The Spare Room
One corner of the room is occupied by a sofa-bed for overnight guests or for nights when Santa works late and does not want to disturb the others by going to bed in the middle of the night. The fridge beside the sofa is another "temporary" relic and Santa would very much like to finally get rid of it.

The Magic of Colour
The transformed room gives a completely different air. The former poorly lit and half empty, half cluttered room has been transformed into a hobby haven. Three of the walls have been painted white to make the room lighter which is essential for working. For one wall, designer Inga has chosen a dove blue colour that creates a calm impression and a nice background for the picture wall Santa wished for.

A Smart Solution
For moments of rest and for socialisation with friends there is a sofa-bed. The neutral colour complements the blue wall behind it. A picture ledge is an excellent solution if you want to change the mood more often by changing the pictures without needing new hooks in walls. A sofa-bed is flexible and can be used both for short rest and for spending the night. A carpet reflecting the colour palette of the room, makes for a feeling of a separate "lounge area".

Organisation is Everything
Every hobby requires efficient storage solutions. As Santa likes to express her creativeness in more than one way (she has a passion for sewing as well as for making jewellery and for painting), it means that organising everything to avoid clutter is essential. Here, the solution is to put everything in open shelves, adding boxes that can be labelled for easier finding what is needed. The new solution uses the full potential of walls, leaving the floor clutter free.

Working at a Comfortable Height
The one wish Santa had for her new hobby room was a spacious desk with adjustable height and this wish has been granted. The new desk has enough space both for the sewing machine and for drawing sewing patterns. The table top can be lifted to work in a more ergonomic position.

Always with a Plan
As before the makeover, there is a spacious wardrobe for everything from clothing and fabrics to ironing board and luggage. For a more detailed organisation, some boxes have been added.

No Lost Ideas Anymore
Sewing is a creative craft and it requires a lot of concentration. When you inspiration, nothing should stand in the way. Here, interior designer Inga has chosen a swivel chair that allows using both the space on the desk and the shelf behind it that is handy for storing things that are often needed. There is also adjustable extra lighting. Designer Inga has managed to create an interior that invites to be creative.
