A nature inspired bedroom

Parent's bedroom is often the very last room that gets renovated in a family home. This is true also in the case of Evelīna's and Artūr's home. Their bedroom is everything but cosy, used mostly as storage and home for mismatched furniture. But now this is about to change, with the help of IKEA Interior Designer Elīna.

Multifunctional but not so functional

The bedroom awaiting renovation has more than one function in this household. It is a bedroom, an improvised walk-in wardrobe and a living room substitute for relaxing and watching TV. As it sometimes happens, a room for everything is not very functional in either of its roles. It is not really a cosy bedroom, not really a practical storage room and not really a comfortable room to relax in. The mismatched furniture fails to create a nice atmosphere.

The inspirational power of the outdoors

Evelīna is a passionate hiker who finds her inner peace in the nature. She admits she likes the raw side of the nature, the more overgrown the forest, the better. She is fascinated by the unexpectedness of events when outdoors and by how you can never know what you will see or encounter.

A moodboard for two

Elīna invites Evelīna and her husband Artūrs to put together an inspirational moodboard to set the right vibe for the new interior. Varying from sand and stone hues to forest green, the palette is one of a natural paradise complemented by bold prints and contrasts.

A bed in the middle of a room? Hmm... why not!

Multifunctional rooms require clever solutions to live up to the expectations of people who live there. As the room is quite long, first thought Elīna had was to place the bed at one end and the wardrobe at the other. However, in this case there would be no room for TV. This called for an unusual solution and Elīna decided to create a whole wardrobe area at the furthest end of the room and to place the bed in the middle of the room, literally. The high headboard creates a visual division between the wardrobe and sleeping area and the wardrobe doors are minimal in design, thus giving an impression of a solid wall.
 

Thinking out of the box

There is always more than one way to use a piece of furniture. Here, Elīna proves it to be true with a plant stand that can be used as a nightstand. With its white colour, it also serves as a visual link between the white ceiling light, the window and other elements that pull the interior together in one united style that contributes to cosy atmosphere. The bed is placed in the middle of the room: an unusual but surprisingly functional solution that visually divides the space.
 

The wall opposite from the wardrobe is dedicated to a decorative media solution where the main element is TV board, but Elīna has not let it to dominate the room with its presence. The inconspicuous combination of white and natural wooden finishes creates a calm and naturally attractive combination. An armchair and picture wall give an extra cosy air and distracts from the screen when it is time to calm down and get ready for sleep.
 

"If one room has several functions, planning has to be very careful as every detail counts. You shouldn't be afraid of unusual solutions, like a plant stand for a nightstand like I used here. Sometimes an unusual solution is just what a room needs to become more functional."
