A loving couple, a small room and some 40-year-old furniture. This time, "Home Idea with IKEA" visits Jelgava where a special challenge awaits IKEA Interior Designer Dagne – she will create a whole new retreat for this lovely couple.
Helga and Andris have been married for 40 years and have lived the last 20 in their own cosy house in Jelgava. After giving all the best to their children and renovating their rooms it somehow never came to renovating their own bedroom.
This time, "Home Idea with IKEA" visits an apartment in Riga, home of the happy and optimistic Alda. For her, a kitchen makeover is a dream come true. And what a coincidence! The first meeting with designer Līva takes place on no other day than her birthday. Could one with for a better sign?
The lady of the house is a passionate cook and tells that she spends most of the time in her kitchen. When her family visits, this room becomes the heart of events, everybody attracted to it as if by magic. The grandchildren are particularly interested in the cookies and other tasty things their grandmother bakes.

Think you have seen everything? Think again. After the challenge in this kitchen, even the smallest kitchens will seem like a definition of "spacious". Even though the overall area of 8 square meters may seem like a good enough start, this kitchen is super narrow, making it nearly impossible to move freely even for one person. Cooking together with somebody is an unattainable dream.
Spending more time at home also means more cleaning, cooking and eating in your very own kitchen. But how to set up one that is friendly for you and the whole family, too? Here are some tips and tricks from our interior designers.
In this shared bedroom of a young couple and their brand new baby, comfort and calmness reign supreme. From baby’s nursery corner to their ultra-compact wardrobes, “less is more” is the motto throughout. But a peaceful, snooze-affirming sleep space isn’t the only plus – their pared-back approach means they never buy more than they need, saving money for the things and experiences that really matter.
The stress of the city had this couple longing for a slower, simpler and more conscious life – even before their baby came along. And while becoming parents turned their world upside down, they discovered that it didn’t have to change how they wanted to live. Their cosy little apartment embodies lived-in simplicity: furnished only with things that this new little family needs and loves, with both the present and future in mind. Best of all, at a surprisingly low price too.
IKEA makeovers have taken place in all kinds of spaces. Living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, even summer houses and garages. So why not a cafe? Our brave contestants are this time a family who run a restaurant inherited from their father. Lovingly named "Kaprīze" (a whim), this place has been dear to the founder's heart right from the beginning. Now, it is ready for some makeovers.
Life can get wildly busy and when your home is your workspace too, it can be difficult to slow things down. Step into a bedroom that works as a perfect on/off switch, with clutter-banishing storage and a soft, tone-on-tone colour palette for an instantly relaxing atmosphere.
A lot of things go into a kitchen – food, energy, water – and a lot of waste comes out. However, a few smart choices will minimise traffic at both ends – and help you be kinder to both your wallet and the planet.
While they certainly won’t be hosting banquets in their small, one-bedroom apartment, this couple have mastered the art of intimate evening soirees. It all comes down to careful planning, seemingly endless small, delicious plates and treating preparation as half the fun.
Space for both quality and alone time. A pared-back home that also allows for easy, comfortable family living. It may sound like quite the brief, but by blending smart solutions with practical, long-lasting furnishing choices, this apartment in the city ticks all the boxes.
Trading in a suburban home for city life presents a golden opportunity to create a new living space filled with carefully curated furniture and objects collected over time. Set within a colourful apartment, this expressive space offers plenty of room to dine, entertain and enjoy the good life.
When we think of shared homes, we may imagine students and young professionals, but there is no reason why people of all ages can’t enjoy a more communal way of life. With multifunctionality, smart storage and a focus on private and social spaces, this home is an exciting new take on living with others.
