METOD
Whatever your dream kitchen is, it’s probably different from many other people’s dreams. This we learned when researching kitchen desires around the globe. Our conclusion for the METOD kitchen system: it should make it possible to design the best kitchen for you – whatever your preferences and living situation.
Our ambition is to help as many as possible to have a kitchen they'd love to be in. We started sketching. “When we created METOD, it was our biggest ever kitchen change, so it's fair to say we were very keen to get it right,” says technician Klas-Ola Nilsson.
So, what would people’s dream kitchen be like? We surveyed thousands of people, visited hundreds of homes and worked with food industry professionals. “We found if there's one thing in common with kitchens around the world it's that they're different.” Klas-Ola says. “For as many people who dream of an open space kitchen, there are people with a small space, or a space that cannot be changed that much.”
One element became blindingly important. “We realized we needed a kitchen system that could adapt to different sized spaces in a way that hadn't been done before,” Klas-Ola says. “So, we developed cabinets that could fit almost anywhere.” Different sizes can be mixed to best fit the room and they'll still fit together – without odd ends. The clever inside can be personalized to support your kitchen needs and activities, too.
An adaptable kitchen fits better with how you like to cook, both now and in the future. Whether you start craving a more professional kitchen, or just want to start using it for more activities, we would love METOD to help out. “There's nothing to say that METOD is set and fixed now,” Klas-Ola says. “People’s ideas on what a dream kitchen should do is always evolving. To meet future needs, METOD will evolve, too.”
IKEA makeovers have taken place in all kinds of spaces. Living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, even summer houses and garages. So why not a cafe? Our brave contestants are this time a family who run a restaurant inherited from their father. Lovingly named "Kaprīze" (a whim), this place has been dear to the founder's heart right from the beginning. Now, it is ready for some makeovers.
What is the most unusual room IKEA interior designers have worked with in "Home idea with IKEA"? From bedrooms to studios, to a tree house: every project has had its own challenges. Still, there has never been a room as unusual as this one. It is a kitchen and an orangery in one and an activity hub for the whole family. IKEA interior designer Katrīne will need all of her skill to make change happen in this space: a room where plant-lover Margita lets her passion free rein.
Kitchen is the heart of most every home and it plays a huge role in the everyday life of a family. It is crucial to plan it in a way that it is functional for big and small and also aesthetically pleasing. "Home idea with IKEA" is visiting a mother of four planning a surprise makeover for her husband in their kitchen and IKEA Interior Designer Alla shares best tips & tricks in kitchen planning.
One room and more than one function? Surely the reality of many homes today. This applies also to Evija's and Juris' appartment where a cosy attic room is used both for work and leisure. The owners call it "the room where money is made and spent". It is a space for working and for hobbies (games, music and books). Evija and Juris admit to have wished for changes for a long time but never having the courage to actually make them happen. Will IKEA Interior Designer Nadežda manage to encourage them?
"Home idea with IKEA" works on makeovers in homes and businesses alike. The miniature kindergarden in Smārde, run by Anete and Elīna, is also a small business that has become a second home for both of them: they call the children of the kindergarden their second family. They have applied for a makeover in their, which is not comfortable and functional enough for the daily needs of the kindergarden. It would be easy to plan a kitchen in a large space, but this time everything has to be thought out centimetre by centimetre, because there are many needs but very little space.
What to do with a space that is hard to find the right use for? Madara and Ričards have a room just like that, and for the time being it's on the back burner, but... or we don't know how long the "on the back burner" can last! The owners are hoping for help and encouragement to create something lasting here, perhaps a sitting corner or a games room with a place to work.
